The Find

During my routine Reddit deep dive for obscure sci-fi movies—because I’ve practically seen them all—one film caught my attention. A comment mentioned, "you'll feel like you've watched this movie before," and that's precisely what happened. Throughout the film, I kept thinking, "Haven't I seen this already?" The consensus is, yes, I had. But I didn't recall the twist until it was almost revealed.

The Quick and Dirty

The movie in question is Archive (2020), written and directed by Gavin Rothery, who also contributed to Moon and Shaun of the Dead.

My Thoughts

Without delving into spoilers, Archive centers on a man living in isolation at a private laboratory on a three-year contract, striving to advance AI to emulate human consciousness. Although the movie didn’t break new ground with its themes, I found it well-acted, well-plotted, and engaging. It had an emotional undertone that made me genuinely care for the characters, more so than I typically do for machines in cinema—especially regarding the second robot the protagonist built. You'll see what I mean.

Where To Watch

Currently, Archive can be watched on the platforms below:

Amazon Prime (Free With Prime)

In the near future, George Almore (Theo James) is working on a true human-equivalent AI. When his wife is tragically killed in a car accident, he becomes obsessed with the impossible: bringing her back to life. Her memories have been preserved thanks to the Archive, but only for so long. In a race against time, George must defy scientific and ethical boundaries to save the one he loves most.

The Trailer

I’ll link the trailer here, but I suggest going into the movie blind, as with all films. However, it's certainly up to you.
