The Quick and Dirty

The Fare (2018), directed by D.C. Hamilton and written by Brinna Kelly, who also stars as the lead actress, is a tightly constructed time loop plot. The synopsis reads: "A taxi driver finds himself trapped in a time loop. He picks up a pretty woman in a rural area at night. Later, she disappears. The loop starts over when he switches the meter back to vacant."

My Thoughts

It's hard for me to dislike any time loop movie, as it's one of my favorite plot devices. The Fare didn't disappoint. I was hooked right from the beginning; the movie had an ethereal and retro vibe and was cleverly paced. While a romance involving time travel isn't a rarity in the world of film, this movie had an additional twist that added an extra layer to its complexity. Though the explanation for the time loop may have been a bit far-fetched, I found myself leaning into it and enjoying the philosophical themes the movie was exploring. All in all, it's a great movie to watch alone or with a partner.
